How to Clean the Filter
Step 1. Turn off the AC unit. You don’t want to be inhaling unfiltered air as you clean the filter.
Step 2. Remove the vent cover and extract the filter. The exact location of the filter will vary depending on your AC unit. Many units will store their filters behind the return vent, which is typically found near the ceiling or the floor. Once you find the filter, slowly remove it from the unit.
Step 3.Clean the filter. If it’s a reusable filter, you can use a handheld vacuum cleaner to remove the dust, or you can do a deep cleaning by running water over it. If you run water over it, be sure to let it dry. If it’s a disposable filter, replace it with a clean filter from your local hardware store.
